2.8 and IS want to help your shutter speed ofc, but to see what you need best you have to do some math like 24-105 IS can give you 3 stops lower shutter speed if am right? and 2.8 gives you a nice hole to get more light.

peronaly when i will get more money for L glass i maybe go for this 24-70 with 2.8 because i see it faster BUT the IS the real advantage you get is that it will help you more in shaky contition so if we had this lens with IS it would be WIN WIN. now its just WIN :P

i hope canon won’t stop the production of this lens too soon… i’m in the process of saving money for it, and the progress is quite slow, considering these tough times..

    bro, one more thing..

what was the idea and/or purpose of this lens being reversed zoom? is it like…

    barrel in = zoom in
    barrel out = zoom out

    instead of…

    barrel in = zoom out
    barrel out = zoom in

    ?

the is also drains a bit of power as i have noticed, so i’m also taking that into account with my next lens. jeez, makes me realized even more the meaning of “sacrifice” and “compensate”, huh? well, again, thanks bro.

thank for the infos bro. now i can see directions. i’m using 50d also, with an 18-55 IS kit that came with it. bought it here in the philippines. hehe… i’m just so new to these higher level lens things coz i’m used to the 18-55 f3.5-5.6 IS kit lens as a beginner. i’m planning to level up, and this lens, and the 24-105 are my choices, mainly coz of budget concerns. both are within my budget.. and the shaky hands of course.. thank you.. ,”) keep shooting!

And also, you have to go try it out yourself! Go to your shop and sit down with your camera, try it on and take alot of pictures and see which one you like. hold on it feel it. etc……..

But what camera are you using? why are u looking this lens. It’s quite professional i say. But the quality is brialliant! hehe If you are using this len I think you need sometime to learn to use it. All the focus points and modes and everything…. maybe you can try 17-55 F2.8 Fix (Not L)

But really, too me I bought the F2.8L because of only one reason. It’s so annoying when i get inside low light places such as museums or gets dark outside. And I can’t take a picture of anything without the tri-pod. And sometimes it works with the ISO setting so high that there are so much NOISE. Because, i have the same shaking hands problem as you hehe.. Good luck!

THE IS helps with your shaking hands. Assuming same light condition= with F4 you will not get higher shutter speeds. So you will need it. But, in F2.8, the shutter speed can be faster, so why need IS? To me as one of a semi-pro photographers, I don’t think the IS helps much. With F2.8, you also can blur the backround of the subject such as portraits and other things too. 24-70 is more than enough of the range. If you wanted to take far away pictures i recommend you get a telephoto lens. ^_^

so that means i can still make up for the absence of the the IS feature in this glass because of the f2.8 that permits me to use faster shutter in low to medium light? i do have annoyingly shaky hands bro.

24-70 F2.8 because it got the F2.8 … why? gives better shutter speed in low light condition, etc etc..
